Folk Music Icon, Arlo Guthrie, Aims to Please His Texan Fans Once Again

With a distinguished and varied career spanning almost sixty years, Arlo Guthrie has become an iconic figure in folk music. When he took to the road to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of his seminal song “Alice’s Restaurant Massacre,” he was incredibly moved by the feedback from enthusiastic fans. Now, he is embarking on the Back By Popular Demand Tour.

Alice’s Restaurant’s Back By Popular Demand Tour will coincide with the 50th Anniversary of the feature film “Alice’s Restaurant,” originally released in 1969, starring Arlo as himself. He will be joined by longtime collaborators Terry Hall, Steve Ide and Carol Ide of his former acclaimed band Shenandoah. Arlo's daughter Sarah Lee Guthrie, a lauded singer-songwriter in her own right, will open the shows.

Arlo is a natural-born storyteller, whose tales and anecdotes figure prominently in his performances that helped define the "Folk Boom" era. He has been known to generations as a prolific songwriter, social commentator, master storyteller, actor and activist. But mostly Arlo remains a road warrior, touring almost constantly, alone or with friends and family. Since the first time he performed in public in 1961 at the age of 13, and after almost 60 years of shows, Arlo Guthrie, now in his 70s, has become an American elder—a keeper of the flame.
